Austroleria extensa is difficult to distinguish from the other species, A. truncata, on external characters and some are dubiously placed here. The former species is said to have a darker antennae and the middle dorsal thoracic stripe wider, often diffuse, and sometimes obsolete. Both species have the dark marks along the wing anterior and posterior crossveins, but usually A. extensa differs by the addition of much lighter marks near the apex of R2+3, R4+5, and M vein. Bodylenth range of 3.1 to 4.8mm.
