Tapeigaster nigricornis can be distinguished from the other described Tapeigaster species by the combination of only the fore and hind femora being swollen and the mesonotum striped but lacking isolated spots. Other features include eye orbits with wide silver stripes but lacking spots, the fore and mid tibiae are darkened apically only (hind darkened on base and apex), tarsi darkened apically, and the wings never with a deep yellow colour.
