Lonchopteridae (Spear-Winged Flies)

Only the one introduced species occurs in Tasmania and on the mainland. Australian populations of Lonchoptera furcata consists largely, or entirely, of females which reproduce asexually from unfertilised eggs. Larvae are found among rotting or wet leaf and vegetable matter.
