The adults of the chafers only live for a very short duration (days) and are rarely attracted to light. The larvae live in burrows and curl their body into a C shape. Underground they feed on roots and can be a food crop pest. They pupate underground, and the pupa emerges after rain. Some adults feed on leaves, others congregate around flowering plants. Some adults do not feed at all. Tasmania has 70 listed species.
